Leigh's Audition Process

How do Auditions Work?

Auditions are open to all LHS students, regardless of them being enrolled in a Leigh theatre class or not. Students sign up for time slots and bring their completed audition forms/packet with them to their scheduled audition.

Play Auditions

Students will register for an audition time and bring their completed paperwork. Once at the audition students will be given “sides” which are snippets of scenes or monologues and are asked to briefly study them before we do cold readings.

Musical Auditions

  • Vocals: Students prepare a 16-32 bar cut of a song in the style of the show

  • Dance: Students will be taught 30 seconds of a dance day of

  • Acting: Sides are given day of - same as plays

The Callback Process

Callback materials are generally emailed out to students individually with their character(s) specified in the email. They are then responsible for practicing the materials before they show up to their callback. Most plays only have one day of callbacks, musicals can sometimes have a week of callbacks. If your student doesn't receive a callback this does not neccisarily mean they won't be cast. Now, callbacks are simply just another opportunity for the production team to see your student again, this does not guarantee them a place in the show.

The Casting Process

At Leigh we do our best to cast all students in our productions, however, most productions are subject to cuts. We frequently have understudies, and in rare cases double cast. If we have understudies, they are guaranteed two out of six shows. Doubles will have the same amount of shows in both casts. If students have questions about their casting or if they didn’t make a show they are always welcome to ask the directors and and/or coaches about their own auditions.
